Lauren's Poem Analysis
Dulce maria Loynaz' poems are reflections of her emotions, her culture, and her life. The poem, 'The Mirror', I think is basically about how at one point, her life went downhill. She started to become distant with herself and the world. And the mirror forced her to dwell on the past, to remember and regret. If this poem was actually an event that did happen to her, then it shows that she tries to persevere through bad times and that she shant look back in her past and regret. Being this way, I think, is an element to strong character. Also, her writing style, of not this poem but others as well, definately proves that she received a good education and is a part of a wealthy family. It may not seem this way when you first read her poems, but hidden inside the lines of poetry, are indications of her character and life. -Lauren Beane
Katie's Poem Analysis
Dulce Maria Loynaz wrote several poems of her life, reflecting the past of her experiences, emotions, and culture. In the poem, "Doubt", she explains how life wouldn't be good without roses, which can represent love. I assume that Maria wrote this poem when she had a divorce with her first husband. Described in the poem, she was confused, lost, and heartbroken, doubting that she will ever find true love again. Even though Maria grew up in a wealthy family, she lived a sheltered childhood. Being secluded from the outside world, she expresses her emotions and thoughts through poetry, using a unique writing style that shows she is educated. Poems, much like “Doubt”, she inscribes words in her poems with profound meaning indicating her personality, culture, and life. -Katie Ly
Bella's Poem Analysis
The poem relates to her life in the way that she was not used to being denied of something she wanted. For me, this poem is about a broken heart. it is possible that she wanted a man to love her, but he just never really did. So she made this poem reflecting on how she felt and how other women can and should feel in the future. Also she grew up in a rich family and most likely never had been said no to. This poem explains how she felt about the rejection and her thoughts on that rejection. Also she may have felt hurt, and writing poems was the only way she could express herself. The poem "Love Song of the Forgotten" reflects on her life, culture and experiences. -Bella Chilczuk
